The Actor’s Word
On the 20th of September, we the students of 2nde Scientific
and the 1ères went to the Indianostrum Theatre which is run by our Physics
teacher Mr. Valavane. The play that we went to watch was called “The Actor’s
word». The actors were Maurice Durozier, a famous actor who is an old member of
the well known troupe “Théâtre du Soleil” created and directed by the renowned
Ariane Mnouchkine.
The play consisted of an interview between him and his daughter Maya, that
discussed life on stage and his views on theatre in general.
In the play, Maurice Durozier represented various forms of theatre from
around the world ranging from Broadway to Japanese Noh.
He was inspired by a famous quote of Charlie Chaplin “You are what you
do”.
He also represented a Bharatanatyam piece of the Siva-thandava dance of
the Hindu god Shiva.
Then suddenly, he produced a mask of the Commedia dell’arte theatre of
Italy. The person who wore the mask was called Polichinelle. He performed an
extract from a play in which this character had played.
He also spoke about the highs and lows of being an actor.
Finally, after the play, we the students asked many questions about his
life as an actor and his various methods on being such a successful one.
All in all, it was a very enjoyable afternoon with an excellent actor
showcasing us his multi-facetted brilliance.
